Fire Hydrant Safety

As you continue tackling your spring and summer yard maintenance, don't forget about the fire hydrant in your neighbourhood!
While you're trimming hedges, planting flowers, and freshening up your landscaping, take a moment to check for any obstacles around nearby fire hydrants. Firefighters need to be able to spot and access hydrants quickly during an emergency, and overgrown vegetation or landscaping features can slow down that response.
Keeping hydrants clear isn't just about complying with the Fire Bylaw—it's about helping protect your neighbours when they need it most. Those few extra seconds saved locating and accessing a hydrant can make a significant difference during a fire.
As you're checking items off your yard maintenance list this season, add fire hydrant clearance to the list too. A few minutes of trimming today could help firefighters respond faster tomorrow.
Additional information can be found in Town of Olds Fire Bylaw 2024-33.
Helping keep hydrants visible and accessible is one small way we can all help keep our community safe.
