Education Tax Increase in 2026
How The Education Tax Affects Your Property Taxes
The Province of Alberta has increased the education property tax for 2026. This is a provincially set tax that municipalities collect from residents on behalf of the Government of Alberta.
How This May Affect You
Owners of residential properties will pay $34 more in education property tax for every $100,000 of assessed property value. For the average home assessed at $448,000, this will equate to approximately $152 this year.
Owners of non-residential properties will pay $13 more in education property tax for every $100,000 of assessed property value. For the average non-residential property assessed at $1,042,000 this will equate to approximately $135
