Trail and Shared Pathway Bicycle Safety

People on bikes are responsible for the following these rules:

  • Working bell required - under the Traffic Safety Act, Peace Officers can issue an $81 ticket if your bike doesn’t have one.
  • Use your bell when passing — riders must alert others before passing slower users. Failing to do so can also result in an $81 ticket.
  • Slow down when approaching others and pass on the left side.
  • Obey trail signs and park closures.
  • At night, all bicycles must have:
    • One or two front lights (white)a red tail light
    • A red rear reflector
  • A person shall not ride a bicycle unless the bicycle has a brake.
  • Safety helmets must be worn if the rider is under the age of 18.
