Accessible Transportation

A growing number of older adults and people with mobility issues in the Town of Olds who want to live in their own homes face barriers to accessing the non-medical services they need to live independently in the community, including accessible and affordable transportation. Older adults or those with mobility issues have priority booking status and can book the bus three days or more in advance of day needed to ensure time slot availability.    

We also understand that there is a need for affordable transportation in our community and have taken steps to allow the Sunshine Bus to be booked by the public. We are now accepting public bookings. 

Sunshine Bus Public Booking Information

Priority Booking

Older adults or those with disabilities receive priority. To meet priority booking guidelines, the trip must be booked a minimum of 2 business days before the appointment. 

General Booking (Non-Priority & Priority)

General public or priority clients can book same day if space is available. 

Payment Options

• $5.00 / one way per person  
• Punch Pass (11 trip punch pass) - $50.00 / one punch per person 
• Cash or Punch Pass only. 
• Punch Passes can be purchased at the Olds Municipal Centre (3501 70 Avenue), Aquatic Centre (5303 46 Avenue) by cash, credit or debit. 
• Punch passes can also be purchased from the bus driver or at the Community Connection Centre (4911-51 Avenue) but by cash only. 

Call To Book Your Ride

Call the booking line (403-556-8003) Monday to Friday between 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM and one of the volunteer dispatchers will reserve the timeslot for your trip. 

Seating

The bus is equipped with 1 wheelchair space and three passenger seats. 

Caregiver Policy

Support person rides free with the paying passenger. 

Return Trip Notification

Passengers must inform the dispatcher if there is no return trip.

Hours of Operation

The Sunshine Bus operates Monday to Friday between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Please call dispatch at 403-556-8003 between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM Monday to Friday to book a ride. 

IMPORTANT: Please schedule your ride 1-2 days in advance to secure your requested time. Same-day bookings are handled on a space-available basis. Please be ready 10 minutes prior to pickup. Drivers can only wait five minutes before delays affect the next pickup. When cancelling your ride, please give as much notice as possible. This allows other passengers to be accommodated.
