Highway 27: Olds Functional Planning Study
The Highway 27 Functional Planning Study provides a long-term planning framework for the Highway 27 corridor through Olds, from 70 Avenue to east of Highway 2A. The study was completed to review existing and future traffic operations, safety considerations, access management, pedestrian movement, and future growth along the corridor.
Key issues identified in the study include:
- Increasing traffic volumes along Highway 27
- Closely spaced and offset intersections
- Numerous direct accesses and driveways onto the highway
- Conflicts between local traffic and highway through-traffic
- Pedestrian movement and crossing considerations
- The need to balance corridor improvements with impacts to adjacent properties and businesses
The study outlines potential improvements such as:
- Intersection modifications and realignments
- Access consolidation and closures where appropriate
- New service road and local road connections
- Pedestrian accommodations
- Staged improvements that could be considered over time
The study is intended to support future planning and decision-making. Construction of the identified improvements is not currently scheduled.
