Olds Residents are recognized as leaders in Alberta for following a three-stream, three week rotational collection system.

Residential Waste Collection in Olds is on a five-day schedule, from Monday to Friday, with collection weeks alternating on a 3-week rotation between Green Bin (compost), Blue Bin (recycling), and Black Bin (garbage).

Spring Clean Up 2023 

Week 1 

Green Bin Pick Up May 1-5

Week 2 

Blue Bin Pick Up May 8-12

Week 3 

Black Bin Pick Up May 15-19 ~ during this week on your regularly scheduled pick up day Town staff will pick up extra household garbage that does not fit into yopur Black Bin. Extra garbage is to be bagged or neatly bundled and place near your Black Bin.

Olds Lions 7th Annual Community Pick-Up-Garbage Day (P.U.G. Day) ~ Watch for further updates from the Lions Club closer to the event date.

 


Additional Bins

Additional waste bins are available for residences. There is a one-time fee of $70 for a bin of any color.

Monthly fees based on bin color are as follows:

  • Black: $10 per month
  • Green: $3 per month
  • Blue: $3 per month

The Town of Olds contracts Waste Connections of Canada for Residential Roll Out Bin Collection.

Community Grass Bins

Situated throughout Olds are 40  three-yard bins labelled "Compost Only" for garden waste, grass clippings and leaves (see maps below).   Please DO NOT LEAVE bags of grass and leaves beside or around the bins.  Bins are emptied on Tuesdays and Fridays - if the bin closest to your residence is full, feel free to locate another one. 

Acceptable

  • Compostable Items (grass clippings, leaves and garden waste ONLY)

Not Acceptable

  • Plastic, glass or metal
  • Animal waste
  • Tree trunks, branches or tree roots
  • Sod or large quantities of dirt

The Olds Bottle Depot accepts all refundable drink containers and is operated by Accredited Supports to the Community. 

Landfill - Didsbury Transfer Station

The closest landfill site to Olds is located at the Didsbury Transfer Station (see on map), open Monday to Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The landfill site is owned  and operated by:
MOUNTAIN VIEW REGIONAL WASTE MANAGEMENT.
