Parks, Playgrounds and Sports Fields

Olds features 15 parks, 3 sports fields, 9 ball diamonds, and 16 playgrounds offering more than 220 acres of greenspace. All areas are used for both active and passive enjoyment by the citizens of Olds and area as well as the traveling public.

Winterized port-a-potties are available at the following locations:

  • Centennial Park (2 units + 1 accessible unit)
  • Highlands Pond (north end)
  • Imperial Loop (near Ball Diamond 1)
  • Rotary Athletic Park (west side, along the road by the soccer fields)
  • Toboggan Hill (east of Rotary Athletic Park, near road’s dead end)
  • Dog Park (in the parking lot)
  • Cemetery

Trails and Pathways

The Town's trail system consists more than 20 kilometres of both paved and unpaved trails, and routes are incorporated by town streets.

Neil Leatherdale Memorial Park is a Kiwanis-built playground with structures designed for children ages 5-12 years old. The park is named in honour of Neil Leatherdale, former publisher and owner of the Olds Gazette newspaper, whose career spanned 53 years.

The focus of this playground is an interactive area for children of all abilities between the ages of 2-12 years. The playground is designed with varying challenge levels while promoting social inclusion and active play.

Ryan Boutwell Memorial Playground

5401 53 Street (Horizon School Playground) - Chinook's Edge School Division

This park is specifically designed for people with special needs.

Ryan Boutwell Memorial Playground is wheelchair accessible and is named in memory of former Horizon School student, whose family built the original playground at the school. When the old structures needed replacement, an extraordinary fundraising effort by the Horizon School Parents Association made it possible to fully rebuild the equipment. The new playground officially re-opened in Ryan's honour on May 19, 2016.

The equipment was chosen for students from aged 4-20 years to ensure that there were pieces that were designed for children to adults for accessibility.

Toboggan Hill

Vistas Rotary Playground features equipment for both children and adults. Adults can use the circuit training equipment and enjoy vast open views to the northwest. Specialized playground equipment for children aged 5-12 years old and a free little library are on hand for those special play dates.
