The Inside Scoop with Mayor Dan Daley: What's Coming Up In The Community?
Ever wonder what happens behind the scenes at the Town of Olds?
The Inside Scoop with Mayor Dan Daley is a new video series where Mayor Dan Daley chats with Town leaders and staff about the projects, priorities and services that impact daily life in Olds. It’s a chance to hear directly from the people doing the work — and get a better understanding of how things happen in our community.
Mayor Dan Daley: So there's a lot of things happening in the Town of Olds. How would a person find out information on how to get involved or to give their opinion on a project that's moving forward?
Guy Lapointe, Director of Community Services: Engagement is always top of mind for residents at this point, and it is an important task for us as well. And so we try to offer different opportunities to have residents provide their feedback as well.
And so one of the best ways to sort of track all this information is through The Amplifier. If you subscribe to The Amplifier, we'll list everything that's available for citizen engagement.
But on the horizon, we have the Community Showcase. There is a regional recreation phase two study underway as well, and there'll be a survey for that. Coffee with Council is starting up in June as well. And the Centennial Park engagement phase where we report back to the community is happening over the summer. So lots of opportunities for the community to get involved or provide some feedback here.
Mayor Dan: One of our biggest engagement tools that we use throughout the year is our budget survey with our citizens. And that gives us a lot of information on what their needs and wants are. Could you explain a little bit on how people can get involved there?
Guy: Sure. Again, you'll go to our engagement site. That's www.olds.ca/engagement, and then from there, you'll have an opportunity to answer the questions and provide your feedback. But it is vital. That information is used by Council to inform decisions that they make in the fall regarding the budget. And so if citizens want to have an opportunity to influence decisions, that's it.
Mayor Dan: Excellent. Is there any final words that you'd like to pass on to us? What's happening in community services?
Guy: I think that the biggest thing is, you know, if you want to let us know if there's an issue within the community, there's Report-A-Problem. Again, The Amplifier is available to people to stay on track and understand what's going on with the community. Really, we just want to stay in contact with residents and offer a variety of opportunities to do that.
Mayor Dan: Lots of opportunities to communicate with the Town of Olds and have their voices heard. Thank you very much for your time today.
Guy: Thank you.
