Volunteer Appreciation Micro Grants
A New Way to Celebrate Volunteers in Olds
2026 marks International Volunteer Year, and the Community Connections Centre is celebrating the people who help make Olds a strong and connected community. Volunteers play a vital role in local organizations, from sports teams to community groups and events.
To recognize their contributions, we are introducing Volunteer Appreciation Micro Grants. This new program gives local non-profits, community groups, minor sports associations, and faith-based organizations the opportunity to apply for up to $500.
These grants are designed to support meaningful volunteer appreciation activities, whether it’s hosting a small event, providing thank-you gifts, or creating unique ways to celebrate the people who give their time.
This is a simple way to say thank you and highlight the important role volunteers play in our community.

Home for Olds Humane Society
The newly formed Olds Humane Society now has a place to call home. Town of Olds Council approved moving forward with a lease agreement for the former municipal enforcement shop near the intersection of Highways 2A and 27.
The Olds Humane Society approached Council earlier this year looking for a short-term space to operate while fundraising for a permanent facility. This location will house up to 30 animals and support early operations.
Under the agreement, the Town will maintain the building’s exterior, while the society will be responsible for interior upkeep and operating costs. For more details on the Olds Humane Society and the work that they do, please visit: www.oldshumanesociety.com
Local Policing Committee Taking Shape
The Town of Olds is moving ahead with plans to establish its own municipal policing committee.
Late last year, the province approved the Town’s request to opt out of the Southern Alberta Regional Policing Committee. While provincial legislation requires smaller communities with RCMP contracts to be part of a governance model, municipalities can choose to form their own local committee with approval.
Many communities in the region made similar decisions, citing concerns that a large regional body may not reflect local priorities.
Creating a municipal policing committee will allow Olds to engage more directly on community-specific policing needs and priorities. This committee will work with the RCMP and provide input on local policing plans and performance.
The Town will finalize details soon and release more information, including a call for public members.
