Residential Yard Waste Area Opens May 2, 2026
The Town of Olds will reopen its seasonal Residential Yard Waste Program with the Branch Dump and Grass Clippings Area on May 2, 2026 at the Olds Municipal Centre, 3501 – 70 Avenue. Residents can access the site using the north entrance by following posted signs.
The program offers Olds residents a convenient and environmentally responsible way to dispose of branches and yard waste.
Mayor Dan Daley said the Town is pleased to bring the program back for another season and highlighted its impact on the community. “Last year’s grass clippings pilot project was a great success, and the branch dump is well used. This service is appreciated by residents of Olds. It’s something we’re happy to continue for the community.”
The Branch Dump will operate from early May through the end of October, weather permitting. It is open to Olds residents only. It will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and Saturdays, 10:00 AM 3:00 PM.
Accepted materials include:
- Branches, small trees or shrubs six inches in diameter or smaller (about the width of two hockey pucks side by side)
- Dry leaves
Residents are asked to avoid bringing wet material or mixed waste, as this affects end-of-season burning.
The site is for residents of Olds only and is designed to accommodate up to a half ton (a truck-load) of yard waste per trip. Multiple trips are allowed if needed; however, commercial loads will not be accepted.
The Grass Clippings Area will be open during May and October only, with the same operating hours, weather permitting.
Adrian Pedro, Director of Infrastructure Services, said the program provides a practical solution for seasonal yard waste. “This program is a practical and efficient way for the community to manage the waste that comes up through the season. It helps keep materials separated, supports safe handling and makes the process straightforward for residents.”
In the event of very rainy weather, the facility may close temporarily.
During windstorms, fallen branches and trees can create hazards. Responsibility for removal depends on location. Material over six inches in diameter can be taken to the Didsbury Landfill for a fee.
