Olds RCMP and Town of Olds Municipal Enforcement Launch Agent Status Program to Support Local Businesses

The Olds RCMP and Town of Olds Municipal Enforcement are working together to introduce the Agent Status Program, a new proactive initiative designed to support local businesses, address trespassing concerns, and help create safer spaces for employees, customers, and the community.

Through the voluntary program, participating business and property owners can authorize RCMP and Municipal Enforcement officers to act as their agent when addressing trespassing concerns under Alberta’s Trespass to Premises Act and Petty Trespass Act.

Once authorization is in place, officers can address trespassing concerns, issue and enforce bans when necessary, and take action on ongoing issues without needing to contact the business owner or manager for authorization each time.

“This is about giving our local businesses another option to help protect their property, employees, and customers while allowing officers to respond more efficiently and proactively,” said Staff Sergeant Jamie Day, Olds RCMP Detachment Commander.

“It gives our officers another tool to respond proactively while also helping reduce the burden on business owners and their employees when dealing with ongoing concerns.”

For businesses, the program can provide a more consistent approach to dealing with trespassing, loitering, repeat offenders, and other unwanted activity. It can also help reduce situations where employees may feel uncomfortable or unsafe confronting individuals themselves.

Participating businesses become active partners in local crime prevention efforts. When officers encounter an issue at a participating property, the authorization allows them to respond more efficiently rather than waiting for a business representative to attend or provide authorization. Enforcement actions, including trespass warnings and bans, can also be documented to support future enforcement when required.

Local businesses interested in learning more about the Agent Status Program or participating can contact the Olds RCMP Detachment at 403-556-3324.
