Municipal Mini: Regional Partners Launch Recreation Study and Community Survey

Regional Recreation Study Now Underway

The Town of Olds, Mountain View County, Olds College, Chinook's Edge School Division and Olds Regional Exhibition are working together on a Regional Recreation Facility Study.

The study will take a broad look at recreation in the community, examining how existing facilities are being used, identifying trends, and exploring future needs and opportunities. The information gathered will help the project partners better understand the Town’s recreation priorities and support long-term planning discussions.

The project will include research, technical analysis and community input. It will look at existing facilities, recreation trends, facility use, population growth and other factors that may influence future recreation needs.

Your Input Matters

Residents are invited to complete a community survey to share their experiences of how regional facilities are current used.

The survey takes only a few minutes to complete and will help inform the study.

Why are we doing this now?

Good planning starts with good information! With aging infrastructure, shifting demographics and a need for more facilities, it is important to understand current needs, future trends and the realities facing the Town before decisions are made. Recreation investments serve residents for decades, so public input is key.

What Is Being Studied?

The project will look at a wide range of recreation opportunities, including existing facilities, programs, amenities and potential future recreation infrastructure. It will consider factors such as population trends, changing recreation interests, facility use and regional partnerships.

The goal is to create a clearer picture of what recreation could look like in the future and what approaches may best support residents across the region.

What This Study Is Not

It is important to note that this study is not a decision to build a new facility or expand an existing one. Rather, it is intended to provide information that can help support future planning and decision-making.

Any future projects, investments or facility decisions would require their own review, consideration and approval processes.

Who Should Get Involved?

Whether you use local recreation facilities regularly, occasionally or not at all, your feedback will help the project partners better understand how recreation facilities are being used today and what needs may exist in the future.

Get Involved

The survey closes on June 19, 2026 and the results are expected to be shared this fall.
