Council Highlights for June 22, 2026

Below is an overview of Council discussions and decisions from the Regular Council meeting on June 22, 2026:

Rezoning Approved To Support Future Housing Development

Following a public hearing, Council approved a land use amendment for a property at 5360 65 Avenue, changing the zoning from Traditional Neighbourhood District to Mixed Use Node. The amendment supports future residential development that intends to include a mix of detached, semi-detached and townhouse-style housing. The proposal aligns with the Kasawal Area Structure Plan and supports a broader range of housing options in Olds.

Council Action: Council gave second and third readings to Bylaw 2026-15.

Land Use Bylaw Amended For Industrial Property

Following a public hearing, Council declined an amendment to the Land Use Bylaw to add Religious Assembly as a discretionary use on a specific industrial property. The amendment would have allowed a development application for this use to be considered through the development permit process.

Council Action: Council defeated second reading to Bylaw 2026-16.

Development Permit Approved For Industrial Storage Structure

Council approved a development permit for a storage structure at 5913-48 Avenue. The project includes two shipping containers and a fabric-covered structure located within the front yard of the property. Conditions were included to address site access, parking and appearance.

Council Action: Council approved Development Permit PRMO-2026-0076 subject to conditions.

Infrastructure Report Highlights Ongoing Projects and Service Improvements

Council received the second-quarter Infrastructure Services Report. The update highlighted ongoing work related to water and wastewater infrastructure, road maintenance, planning and development activity, utility operations and capital projects across the community.

Council Action: Council accepted the Infrastructure Services Quarterly Report for information.

Council supports Summer Synergy youth livestock program

Council approved a one-time sponsorship to support the Olds Regional Exhibition's 2026 Summer Synergy youth livestock program. The event brings young people from across the region together for livestock competitions, educational programming and leadership development opportunities.

Council Action: Council approved a $1,050 sponsorship from Council's General Sponsorship budget for the 2026 Summer Synergy program.
