Statutory Plans and Regulations
A statutory plan is a legal document/bylaw that must go through three readings and a public hearing before it is adopted by a municipal Council. Once adopted, there is a legal obligation on the part of both the municipality and the residents to adhere to the plan.
Development is guided by legislation and policies that consists of:
- The Municipal Government Act
- Subdivisions and Development Regulations
- Minimum Design Standards for Development
- Planning & Development Policies (see below)
Planning & Development Policies & Guidelines
The Planning and Development Department has a department-specific policies & guidelines in place, whether established by Administration or Council, to guide the operations of the Department. In recognition of the requirements of the Municipal Government Act, the following is a list of all such policies & procedures:

- Certificate of Compliance - Policy 703C
- Town of Olds Civic Addressing - Policy 704C
