Town Opens New Sauna at Olds Aquatic Centre

The Town of Olds is pleased to announce the official opening of a new 10-person sauna at the Olds Aquatic Centre. The sauna will be open to the public beginning Friday, October 17 during regular lane swim, public swim, 55+ swim, and aquafit times.

Council approved the use of a $79,576 restricted reserve, originally stemming from an earlier community donation, to fund the new self-contained sauna on the southeast pool deck. The project, estimated at about $65,000 plus electrical work, was mostly completed during the facility’s annual September maintenance shutdown.

“This project is a wonderful example of how community generosity continues to shape and enrich our public spaces,” said Mayor Judy Dahl. “It’s remarkable to see a donation made years ago come to life today, providing residents with a new way to relax and connect. This is something our entire community can be proud of.”

The sauna, built from Western Red Cedar with glass panels for clear sightlines, blends a warm, natural aesthetic with practical design. Inside, visitors will find lower and upper benches to create different heat zones and soft ambient lighting behind the backrests and under the benches for a calm, inviting atmosphere.

“The new sauna adds another dimension to the Olds Aquatic Centre experience,” said Guy Lapointe, Director of Community Services. “We’re always looking for ways to make the facility welcoming, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone. This addition is a direct result of innovative thinking and the generosity of our community.” Sauna access is available to patrons aged 16 and older.

• 15 kW Harvia Legend electric stove with Olivine rocks
