Town of Olds Springs Into Action With First Annual Spring Clean-Up Events
Olds, Alta. April 23, 2024 – The Town of Olds is happy to announce three Spring Clean-Up Events, a series of old and new initiatives designed to spruce up our town and foster community spirit. This year, we are pleased to announce three major activities: Kick it to the Curb, Pick Up Garbage Day (PUG), and a Pop-Up Transfer Station, all designed to make Olds a cleaner, more vibrant place to live.
Kick It to the Curb: May 10-12 (Friday-Sunday)
First up, from May 10 to 12, residents are encouraged to participate in Kick it to the Curb. This new event allows community members to give their gently used items a second life. Participants can place usable items on their yard – clearly marked with a FREE sign - for others to take home. ‘Advertise’ your items on social media using #OldsKickIt2024. We kindly ask that all items be cleaned up after the event concludes. For items that don't find a new home, consider donating to one of the many second-hand shops in Olds.
Pick Up Garbage Day: May 16 (Thursday)
On May 16, join the Olds Lion's Club and the Town of Olds for the 8th annual Pick Up Garbage (PUG) Day. We encourage everyone to arm themselves with a garbage bag and help pick up litter around our community. Designated drop-off locations will be available for filled bags. You can view these maps at www.olds.ca/springcleanup. Please watch out for the many volunteers, minor sports teams, and clubs who are helping to make a difference in their neighbourhoods.
Pop-Up Transfer Station: May 23-25 (Thursday – Saturday) *Registration is required
Rounding out our clean-up event, from May 23 to 25, the Olds Operations Centre will host a Pop-Up Transfer Station from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. This initiative provides residents of Olds who register for this event an opportunity to dispose of regular household waste and hazardous household materials (like old paint, tires, batteries, aerosol cans, lightbulbs and more) at no cost. A full list of accepted hazardous household materials is available at www.olds.ca/springcleanup.
This service is only available to Olds residents and hazardous household waste will only be accepted on Saturday. Each household is limited to one level-truck bed of waste. Registration is required and can be submitted starting May 1, 2024 at www.olds.ca/springcleanup.
The Town of Olds is proud to put on and support these initiatives, contributing to a more engaged and cleaner community. We encourage all residents to participate in these events, demonstrating our collective commitment to the environment and each other.
