Election: 

Nominations for those who wish to run for a council seat close Sept. 22 at 12 noon. 

Candidate information packages are available via this link: Candidate Information Package. Prospective candidates will have to book an appointment to submit nomination papers. 

Darren Wilson is running for a second straight four-year term as a Town of Olds councillor in the Oct. 20 municipal election. 

Community News:  

Council voted to use a $79,576 restricted reserve, stemming from a 2007 donation, to fund a self-contained sauna on the southeast pool deck. The project, estimated at about $65,000 plus electrical work, will be completed during the centre’s September shutdown. 

The Olds Fire Department (OFD) has received funding from TC Energy which will enable it to buy a drone and related equipment to improve its firefighting response. 

“We really wanted to honour a decade of building something special for the community, so we added a few extra touches this year,” Gillian Grant, of C5 Rodeo which did much of the organizing told the Albertan. 

Annual trade show-style event is an opportunity for non-profits, service clubs, sports groups, and other organizations to share information, recruit volunteers, and register participants 

Area residents who want to sign the Forever Canadian petition for Alberta to stay in Canada have been getting an opportunity to every Thursday in Olds since late-August. 

The Town of Olds is moving forward with the demolition of a vacant and deteriorating building located at 5033 51 Street, under the authority of the Municipal Government Act and a court order issued in early 2025. 

Local Sports: 

The preseason has officially come to a close for the Olds Grizzlys, and after five intense exhibition games, it’s clear both the AJHL and the local community have taken notice, This year’s squad means business. 

The Olds Sportsplex was buzzing with excitement on Wednesday as the Olds Grizzlys hit the ice for their annual media day, marking a key milestone in their preseason preparations. Dressed in full game day gear for the first time this season, the players took center stage to create content for promotional videos and photos, giving fans a first look at this year’s lineup 

Olds College: 

Olds College and Farm Credit Canada (FCC) have partnered on a research project to find better ways to identify and manage unproductive or marginal farmland. When these areas are conventionally farmed, they often lose money and can even suffer soil degradation.
