Council News:
After one term as a councillor, he was the winner of the two candidate race for Olds Mayor and will be in for a second term at the council table. Daley finished with 1,266 votes and former Mayor Michael Muzychka wound up with 761.
The 2025 - 2029 Town of Olds municipal council was sworn in on Monday, Oct. 27 with a new mayor at its helm.
Former councillor Dan Daley has a theory as to why he won the race for mayor in Olds during the recent 2025 municipal election.
The Town of Olds has released the results of its 2026 Budget Engagement survey, revealing what more than 300 residents identified as their top community priorities.
Through the annual summer survey, residents provided input on municipal services, community safety, infrastructure, recreation, and long-term planning, helping to guide Council as it prepares the next municipal budget.

Heated washrooms will stay open in Centennial Park and Rotary Athletic Park, at least for a while.
Housing:
Olds council passed a bylaw that would preserve the character of existing neighbourhoods comprised of single family homes but would allow everything from single-family homes to multi-unit housing in new neighbourhoods
Development said to directly respond to the findings of the municipality's 2025 Housing Needs Assessment and Housing Strategy, which identified an urgent need for starter homes.
Local Sports:
October 31- Vs. Calgary Canucks: For the first time this regular season, the Calgary Canucks and the Olds Grizzlys will face off in a Halloween Night matchup, where fans of all ages who are dressed up at the game will be eligible to win prizes throughout the game.
Chinook’s Edge:

Olds College:

The Government of Alberta’s Report My Collision service allows Albertans to report property-damage-only collisions online, instead of attending a police detachment or collision reporting centre.
Mounties north of Calgary are investigating an overnight crash on the QEII highway, where one driver involved ran away on foot.
On Oct. 15, 2025, an Olds RCMP Crime Reduction officer attended the Motel 8 in search of a man wanted on an arrest warrant. During the arrest, the officer noticed several items of stolen property in the hotel room.
The shutdown of a suspected drug house in Olds on Oct. 7 may not be the end of the matter if the homeowner doesn’t ensure there’s no more illegal drug activity there, a spokesman for the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) unit of the Alberta Sheriffs says.
The Olds Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire prior to 6am on Tuesday, October 14th.
According to Fire Chief Justin Andrew, when they arrived they found a detached mobile home in the Silver Lynx Community with full fire involvement in the back compartment or the bedroom area of the unit. The occupant was able to escape through early activation of a smoke alarm.
Regional & County News:
Mountain View County's council has declined to approve the proposed 2026 Parkland Regional Library System (PLRS) budget, which called for a per capita rate increase from $9.81 to $9.99.
Angela Look, elected as Division 3 councillor in Mountain View County on Oct. 20, says protecting agricultural lands while supporting and promoting responsible development is a priority for her.
Look garnered 182 votes to defeat incumbent Alan Miller, who garnered 136 votes. A county resident for the past 25 years, Look is a farmer and business owner.
During a recent, regularly-scheduled council meeting, councillors carried the following motion: “That council direct administration to prepare a project sheet for the 2026 budget to reflect participation in Central Alberta First (CAF) for $10,000.”
The motion came after council received and reviewed the recently released Business Retention and Expansion Workshop Development (BREWD) report.
In 2023, the county contributed $10,000 in the BREWD initiative, a collaboration project with the Town of Olds and other nearby municipalities.
