Council News 

Coun. Mary Anne Overwater asked whether it's policy to pave all pathways or could at least some be gravelled 

Olds Mayor Dan Daley said town council is doing their best to ensure that they build a foundation today so that it can be a strong community moving forward. 

Election featured two people running for mayor and 15 for six council seats “so it was a lot," said Olds returning officer 

Community News 

“We do face similar problems as Calgary, with aging infrastructure in our water and sanitary systems but the scale of our issues is much smaller than Calgary’s. 

“One example being is that we have no water pipes near as large as the Bearspaw feeder main, so breaks that happen here, do not cause that level of damage and disruption.” 

Williams noted that for the past three years, the number 1 focus for Olds staff has been to curb water inflow and infiltration. 

A private-sector data centre project is planned for the Town of Olds, with the developer projecting up to 150 permanent jobs and up to $300 million in initial investment, according to a news release issued by the town. 

Data District Inc. plans to develop a data centre campus in Town of Olds, with commercial operations expected to begin in the second half of 2026. 

The Olds Humane Society has a goal of raising $150,000 and working with the town to eventually have a permanent shelter facility in Olds. 

Fundraiser Coordinator Abbie Cummings notes that right now they have a lot of foster families that are helping to take care of their animals. She says “so we are looking for foster families or screening for foster families and you can contact us through the Olds Humane Society on Facebook or you can also find us, we just got our web page up and running, so that is oldshumanesociety.com.” 

Primary Care Alberta’s mobile mammography service is coming to Olds. 

The screen test program will be in the town of Olds at the Olds Hospital (3901 57 Avenue) from Jan. 28-31 and Feb. 2-4. 

Dane Klassen, the third child of Briana and Tristan Klassen of Three Hills, was born at about 6 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3 at the Olds Hospital & Care Centre 

Adventure seekers and film lovers won’t want to miss the Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour, coming to Red Deer and Olds this January. 

Club should net more than $27,000 after expenses 

Seniors 

Residents at Seasons Olds Encore retirement home, along with their families and friends, facility staff and others supported the Mountain View Food Bank again this holiday season. 

Municipally-run service made 724 trips in the third quarter up from 670 during the same quarter the year previous. 

Options to help link seniors with social programs, as well as recreation and exercise programs will also be available during the 9am until noon time slot every Wednesday on a first come, first serve basis 

Local Sports 

The Olds Grizzlys will have a long stretch of road games coming up, starting with a weekend in Fort McMurray to battle the Oil Barons, before making the short trip to Red Deer to play the Lloydminster Bobcats in the AJHL Showcase. 

The number of hours rented at the Sportsplex doubled during the third quarter of 2025 (July through September), Town of Olds community services director Guy Lapointe says. 

Lapointe's report to council showed that hours rented at the facility rose from 604 in the third quarter of 2024 to 1,249 hours rented during that same period in 2025. 

Brynn Smith, a 20-year-old Olds College soccer player from Olds and Bowden, is getting ready for the indoor season, known as futsal, now that the outdoor season is over. 

After the Unified Sports Program Manager attended the inaugural Spartan Spectacular Unified Sports event last spring, planned, organized, and run entirely by ÉOHS students, the organization decided to add a student summit to its December conference. The summit drew approximately 140 participants from across Alberta. 

Mountain View Power 

In Olds, located north of Calgary in Mountain View County, the municipality is in charge of Mountain View Power, the local community energy marketer. 

The town’s director of community services, Guy Lapointe, said a wide variety of community initiatives have been supported by proceeds from the provider. That includes everything from funding festivals and holiday events to contributions toward community groups like Men’s Shed and the Elks.  

While total fund increased, amount of money available for any one project remains capped at $3,000 

Region 

Government of Alberta plans to spend $400 million “to turn shovel-ready projects into new, high-quality care spaces in the communities that need them most” 

Didsbury event followed inaugural gathering in Water Valley where APP organizer became first person to sign petition calling for the province's independence from Canada 

The province is committed to acting as a proponent to deliver a submission of a pipeline project to Canada’s northwest coast to the Major Projects Office. This was part of the historic agreement signed by Premier Danielle Smith and Prime Minister Mark Carney that clears a path for increased energy production and an oil pipeline to access Asia and other global markets.
