Olds Fire Department Responds to Fire-Related Fatality

Olds, AB – On Friday, November 29, 2024, at 11:17 PM, the Olds Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire at 4617 48th Street in Olds following reports of an active fire in the basement and an occupant trapped inside.

Upon arrival, fire crews encountered light smoke and fire conditions in the basement living area. Tragically, a deceased male was located at the scene. The fire was quickly extinguished, and minimal damage was sustained by the residence.

The causes of both the fire and the death are currently under investigation by the Olds Fire Department and RCMP. The fire is not considered suspicious.

The Olds Fire Department responded with two engines, an aerial ladder truck, and a command unit. A total of 18 firefighters were on-site, managing operations well into the early hours of Saturday morning. Fortunately, no injuries to firefighters were reported.

Damage estimates have yet to be determined but are considered minimal. Out of respect for the deceased's family, no further information will be released.

The Olds Fire Department extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends affected by this tragedy.
