New Medical Clinic Announced In The Town Of Olds

A new medical clinic is opening in Olds, creating important opportunities to expand local health care and attract new physicians to the community. The Care First Medical Clinic, set to open September 12, 2025, means more doctors practicing in our community, a welcome step forward for health care in our community.

Physician shortages have been a concern in Olds and many rural communities for many years, with a recent Peaks to Prairies Primary Care Network report putting our community’s current waitlist at 200 unattached patients. With the addition of a third clinic with a walk-in option, this need becomes much more manageable and will significantly reduce patient wait times.  Having more doctors is a positive step in helping Olds mitigate the impacts of local and regional growth.

The Care First Medical Clinic in Olds will have four doctors practising family and geriatric medicine in the new space – one full-time and three part-time. It is located next to the Co-op grocery store at 5330 46 Street.  The new clinic is taking on new patients and offers walk-in services.

The Olds & District Physician and Healthcare Attraction and Retention Committee, a volunteer committee that supports physician recruitment, is excited about the new clinic:

“We’re really excited about a new offering for Olds. Our community is actively working to attract and retain doctors and other health professionals,” said Erin Lowe, Chair of the committee. “Doctors and other health professionals tell us that they value the rural lifestyle and the opportunity for a broader scope of practice in communities like ours. More clinics means more opportunities.”

Mayor Judy Dahl said the new clinic is a key piece in the exciting growth and development Olds is experiencing.

“Olds is a very desirable place to live,” she said. “We have the amenities, the community spirit, and the lifestyle people are looking for — that is why we are growing and developing in so many ways! With growth comes pressures on our health care system and this clinic helps us prepare Olds for the future.”

The committee continues to welcome volunteers who want to help attract and support new doctors and healthcare practitioners and their families.
