Municipal Minute - Housing in Olds

What We Heard: Housing in Olds

Thank you to everyone who completed the 2025 Housing Survey. We heard from renters, homeowners, students, seniors, and families — and the message was clear: housing in Olds is getting harder to find, harder to afford, and often doesn't meet people’s needs.

Key Findings:

  • Nearly half of respondents are spending more than 30% of their income on housing.

  • Many are feeling the squeeze from rising rents, utilities, and property taxes.

  • Renters are struggling to find homes — some are commuting from other communities, living with family, or staying in temporary accommodations.

  • There's a gap between the housing available and what people actually need, especially for smaller households, seniors looking to downsize, and young families starting out.

  • Residents want to see more duplexes, townhouses, secondary suites, and other affordable housing options.
