Municipal Minute - Audio July 16

Listen To The Recording

This is Justin Andrew, Director of Protective Services and Fire Chief for the Town of Olds.

Do you have enough insurance to protect your home from fire damage and firefighting costs?

With inflation, it's smart to check your coverage levels with your insurance advisor every four to five years. Make sure your insurance will cover the cost to rebuild and replace your belongings at today’s prices.

It’s important to know that insurance coverage has two parts: one for the building and one for the contents.

If you rent, you need your own contents insurance because your landlord’s structure policy will not cover your belongings.

Why are we raising awareness on this topic? The rising costs of providing effective fire services to the community are higher than ever. As a municipality, we need to build sustainable funding sources and try to balance the increasing demands for your tax dollars.

By implementing a three tier cost recovery rates model, we aim to ease the tax burden and balance it with user fees.

It’s important to know that service will never be refused due to a lack of coverage or inability to pay.

Helping people is always our top priority.
