Employment Opportunity - IT Coordinator

We are hiring an Information Technology Coordinator (IT Coordinator) for the Town of Olds — the person who keeps technology moving without making everyone feel the pain behind it. As our IT Coordinator, you’ll be the single in-house IT person for a municipality of 150 staff across 5 facilities — the Town-side counterpart to the Managed Services Provider (MSP). You’ll sit between two worlds: our MSP, who handles remote support and infrastructure work, and the people in Town facilities who need their tools to work when the day starts. That means Teams Phone, meeting rooms, AV, laptops, printers, user support, documentation, and the follow-through that keeps small issues from becoming operational headaches. Every week, you’ll track the MSP’s tickets to closure, administer Teams Phone and our 6 Teams Rooms (including the Council chamber), keep asset records honest, and be the calm voice when something breaks five minutes before a council meeting.

This is not a traditional help desk role, and it is not a systems engineering role. It sits in a specific, interesting spot between the two: practical onsite support, MSP coordination, platform administration, and follow-through.

When you do this job well, Town teams spend less time fighting systems and more time serving the community. Most days, your work will be a mix of ownership and coordination. You’ll be the onsite person when remote support is not enough. You’ll set up and configure end-user equipment, troubleshoot endpoints and peripherals, support Microsoft 365 users, test meeting rooms, check AV readiness, and step in when a meeting or event needs practical support. You’ll administer the Town-managed platforms we rely on every day, including Microsoft Teams Phone, Microsoft Teams Rooms, and AV systems. That means managing phone number assignments and changes, call routing, call queues, auto attendants, voicemail policies, room standards, device setups, and the documentation that helps the next person understand what changed and why.

You’ll also coordinate work with the MSP. You’ll track incidents and escalations to closure, follow up on deliverables, confirm resolutions when possible, and keep stakeholders informed during outages, planned maintenance, and service changes. You’ll help translate technical issues into plain-language updates so staff know what is happening, when it will happen, and what they need to do.

To thrive in this role, you have done work like this before. You have owned IT work where follow-through mattered: tracking issues to closure, documenting decisions, and keeping people calm and informed when systems are not behaving. You have been the client-side point person for a MSP or outsourced IT provider and know how to manage escalations, follow up on service commitments, and get results without turning every request into a standoff. You have administered Microsoft 365 in a production environment, including tools such as Teams, Exchange, SharePoint, and Entra ID / Azure AD. You have supported Teams Phone, Teams Rooms, AV systems, or comparable unified communications and meeting-room technology. You understand what “ready” looks like before a meeting starts — not after the first person says, “Can anyone hear me?”

This role is primarily office-based, with travel between Town of Olds facilities as needed for setup, support, and room readiness checks, a valid Class 5 driver’s license is needed. Occasional after-hours work is required for maintenance windows or urgent issues. The role also includes practical physical work, such as moving IT or AV equipment, working under desks, reaching behind racks, and occasionally using a stepladder for related tasks.
