Employment Opportunity - Civil Engineering Technologist
Do you enjoy work that combines field inspection, technical review, GIS, and project coordination? Are you someone who catches issues early, keeps infrastructure projects moving, and takes pride in accurate records and practical problem-solving? Do you want a role where your work supports roads, water, wastewater, stormwater, and development servicing projects that people rely on every day?
We’re looking for a Civil Engineering Technologist who wants a role with variety, visibility, and practical impact. Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure, you will support the planning, design, construction, and lifecycle management of Town infrastructure. You will help maintain authoritative infrastructure records and support safe, compliant, and cost-effective infrastructure decisions. This role also provides day-to-day direction to the Seasonal Engineering Student during the seasonal work period.
This is an opportunity to work across a broad mix of responsibilities rather than staying in one narrow lane. In a given week, you may move between drawing review, field inspection, GIS and asset updates, development-related submissions, project documentation, procurement support, and technical coordination with contractors, consultants, and internal teams.
What you’ll do
In this role, you will help move municipal infrastructure projects from technical review and design support through construction, closeout, and long-range asset planning.
You will:
- Support municipal infrastructure projects involving roads, water, wastewater, stormwater, and development servicing
- Draft and revise engineering drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Maintain authoritative GIS, asset, and project records using tools such as ArcGIS/QGIS and Citywide
- Inspect construction work in the field, coordinate materials testing, and document compliance with drawings, specifications, and Town standards
- Review development-related engineering submissions and shallow utility permits, and prepare technical comments for planning and development files
- Complete design calculations, technical designs, specifications, quantity take-offs, and cost/material estimates for assigned work
- Prepare maps, technical summaries, engineering comments, and supporting documentation
- Help coordinate project documentation, deficiencies, closeout, procurement support, and asset data for long-term planning and budgeting
- Provide day-to-day direction and support to the Seasonal Engineering Student during the seasonal work period
What you’ll bring
You will likely be successful in this role if you are comfortable moving between field and office work, can manage detail without losing sight of the bigger picture, and communicate clearly with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
You likely bring:
- Diploma in Civil, Construction, or Engineering Technology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- C.E.T. designation in good standing with ASET, or the ability to obtain and maintain it within 6 months of hire
- Approximately 4 years of experience in municipal engineering, infrastructure design, construction, or contract administration
- Experience with construction inspection, GIS, asset records, and infrastructure data management
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS and/or QGIS, and Microsoft Office
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s Licence
- Valid Intermediate First Aid & CPR/AED Level C (BL)
Assets include experience with Citywide, development-related engineering reviews, lifecycle planning, procurement support, and providing direction to a seasonal student or other project support staff.
Why join us
This is a role where your work will be visible. You will contribute across technical, field, and coordination responsibilities while supporting infrastructure that has a direct impact on the community. For the right person, this role offers variety, autonomy, and a clear connection between daily work and long-term municipal outcomes.
What we offer:
- Wage range of $50.40 to $57.02 per hour or $98,280.00 to $111,189.00 annually
- 37.5-hour work week
- Health benefits
- Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP)
- Office-based role with frequent site visits and field work in varying weather
