Call for Submissions! Community Photo Contest at Cornerstone Art Commons
For Immediate Release
OLDS, AB. – June 10, 2025 – The Public Art Collective of Olds (PACO) is inviting local artists and photographers to take part in a community-wide contest that will help refresh the art panels at the Cornerstone Art Commons.
Located at the west end of the sculpture pathway—at 46 Street and 65 Avenue next to the Shell Station—the Cornerstone Art Commons displays 16 large panels that have featured community artwork since 2019. PACO is now seeking new work to bring updated stories, images, and inspiration to the site.
Theme: Celebrating Olds – Unity, Roots, and Growth
Residents are asked to share their creative interpretation of what Olds means to them by focusing on one or more of the following themes:
- Unity – The people, places, and traditions that bring Olds together
- Roots – Our shared history, from Indigenous heritage to pioneer stories
- Growth – How the community is changing, evolving, and looking forward
Submissions are open until July 23, 2025 and can reflect everyday life, local landscapes, history, culture, agriculture, technology, or personal moments that represent Olds through your eyes.
Who Can Enter?
Everyone is welcome—regardless of age or experience. Whether you're a professional artist or just love taking photos, your voice matters.
Submission Guidelines:
- Up to five pieces per person
- High-resolution digital images (photography, digital art, or photos of paintings)
- Artwork must be original and reflect the theme
- Vertical format is preferred (panels are 4 feet wide by 8 feet tall)
- Must be appropriate for public display and align with the Town’s public art guidelines
Deadline to submit: Tuesday, July 23, 2025
Selections will be made by PACO with community input. New artwork is expected to be installed in early fall.
“This contest is a great way to celebrate the people and stories that make Olds special,” said Alanna Knobben, community spokesperson for PACO. “Public art helps us connect—with each other, with our past, and with our future.”
PACO is a volunteer-led group supported by the Town of Olds through administrative support and funded by Mountain View Power.
