Winter Road Maintenance

Our Public Works staff work hard year round to ensure that roadways and alleys are maintained and kept accessible to all residents at all times of the year. Emergency routes, main collectors and school routes take priority over other areas. During periods of heavy snowfall or other extreme weather conditions, please have patience as maintenance crews work to get to your area as quickly as possible. Predicting the amount of snowfall over the winter (especially in Alberta) is a difficult thing to do - the Town of Olds is committed to maintaining a balanced budget, and to providing cost-effective, efficient service. Please watch our Social Media feeds for the most up to date information regarding which priority area's will be completed. Your cooperation and patience regarding snow removal is encouraged and much appreciated by the Town and your fellow citizens.

WINTER ROAD MAINTENANCE POLICY

Street Sweeping & Lane Grading

Street Sweeping and Lane Grading take place in Spring and Fall. Town staff do the Uptowne area and the primary and collector streets first, and then move on to residential areas. Signs are posted the day before on streets to be swept.

Important Notes

  • As sweeping can begin as early as 6 a.m., please remove vehicles from the street the night before.

  • For maximum efficiency, the sweeper does an area once and moves on to the next area - it won't come back to do spots missed because vehicles weren't moved.

  • The Street Sweeping schedule may be interrupted by bad weather, equipment failure, or other operations emergencies. Staff do their best to get to your area as fast as they can! We appreciate your cooperation.
