Town of Olds Springs into Action with First Annual Clean-Up Event  (2024)

The Town of Olds is happy to announce the first annual Spring Clean-Up Event, a series of initiatives designed to spruce up our town and foster community spirit. This year, we are introducing three major activities: Kick it to the Curb, Pick Up Garbage Day (PUG), and a Pop-Up Transfer Station, all designed to make Olds a cleaner, more vibrant place to live.

To register for the Pop-Up Transfer Station, please fill out the physical registration form available at the Operations centre. The online registration form is no longer available. Registration is still available until end of day May 25, 2024.

What is Kick it to the Curb?

Kick it to the Curb is a town-wide event to help residents of Olds reduce and reuse.

Place your unwanted (but usable!) items at the front of your property marked with a ‘FREE’ sign. Then explore curbsides around the community to find new-to-you treasures that are marked with a ‘FREE’ sign.

When is Kick it to the Curb?

Kick it to the Curb will be held May 10 to 12, 2024.

How Kick it to the Curb works:

Giving items away

  • ‌Place unwanted, clean/sanitized items at the front of your property.

  • Mark items with the word "FREE" using masking tape, stickers, or FREE tags

  • Ensure anything you want to keep is well away from your give-away items!

  • 'Advertise' your items on social media using #OldsKickit2024 and by posting onto our Kick It To The Curb Event on Facebook.

  • At the end of the weekend bring any uncollected items back into your home to sell or donate.

Items to Give Away

  • Suggestions include:  Books, CDs/Records/DVDs, boardgames, old furniture, small appliances (must work!), kitchen gadgets, dishes, cutlery, pots & pans, surprise craft supplies, toys and unwanted gifts.

Safety

  • Health Canada advises you to be aware of the potential risks of acquiring second-hand items used for safety such as car seats, helmets, and some toys. Learn more about what items to avoid

Taking items

  • Take only the items at the curb marked "FREE".

  • Respect property; don't walk or drive on lawns or gardens.

  • Don't discard items on another property.

  • Sanitize items before bringing them into your home.

Ending the event

  • Please remember to remove any uncollected items from your property after May 12.

  • Items that were not collected can be sold or donated to one of our many local second-hand shops:
