Outdoor Ice Surfaces - Return for the Season

AS OF DECEMBER 24, 2021

Winter Lake, Briegel Pond and Vistas Pond are open to skaters.

Neighbourhood Ice surfaces are open (locations below).

Olds College closed (not built until mid-January).

Watch this page or Town of Olds Social Media for announcements of upcoming surface openings.

Last winter when Townrecreation facilities were closed and/or had limited use during the COVID-19 restrictions the Town of Olds decided to install 8 outdoor ice surfaces in neighbourhoods throughout the community to provide outdoor spaces where people would be able to get out and be active during the winter. The community ice surfaces were so well received the Town is installing commnuity ice surfaces again this winter.

The Olds Fire Department has volunteered to help build, to periodically flood the ice surfaces and continually monitor ponds for ice thickness.

A bench will be provided at each surface as well as shovels.

Community users of the ice surfaces are asked to  clear the snow with snow shovels or small push type snowblowers. Please do not use motorized vehicles on the ice.

Additional 'Snow Patrol' volunteers are needed after it snows to help keep the surfaces clear for residents to enjoy and so the Fire Department can flood the ice surfaces properly and as quickly as possible. To join the ODR (Outdoor Rink) Snow Patrol Crew fill out the below webform or contact the Great Neighbours Program at GNP@olds.ca
