Town of Olds Launches Residential Branch Dump for Sustainable Yard Waste Management

May 10, 2024

The Town of Olds is proud to announce the seasonal opening of the Residential Branch Dump on May 14, 2024. Located at the Operations Centre, this facility will serve as a crucial resource for Olds residents to responsibly dispose of yard waste such as branches, small trees, shrubs, and leaves. The dump will be open from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, weather permitting, until the end of September.

The Branch Dump is designed exclusively for the use of Olds residents, ensuring a local solution to yard waste that complements the town’s environmental initiatives. By facilitating proper disposal and recycling of organic materials, the facility supports the town's commitment to sustainability and community cleanliness.

Adrian Pedro, Director of Infrastructure, highlights the project’s environmental impact: "The Residential Branch Dump is an important element of our waste management strategy. By providing a centralized and cost-effective space for organic waste, we are taking a proactive step towards a better maintained and resource-efficient Olds."

Residents are reminded to adhere to the specific guidelines for waste disposal at the facility to ensure efficiency and safety. The site will not accept commercial loads, and it is equipped to handle up to a half-ton of yard waste per trip, with provisions for multiple trips if necessary. An FAQ with more detailed information is provided on the website.

For very rainy days, the facility will close to manage waste processing effectively. Further assistance and guidance are available onsite, provided by a knowledgeable summer student staff member.
