The Town of Olds is pleased to announce a $37,500 donation from Stirling and Donna McLeod toward the construction of Rotary Athletic Park of Olds. This legacy gift towards the new soccer and ball fields was made to honour and thank former employees of Stirdon Systems.
In 1971, Stirdon Systems Ltd. was established in Olds. The company developed and produced computer-controlled systems for milling livestock feeds on the farm, as well as grain storage and handling.
“This donation has been made to recognize former employees of Stirdon whose dedication and pride contributed to the success of the business over the 27 years we owned it. The opportunity to leverage matching funds offered by Mountain View County made this an ideal time for us to make this tribute on behalf of our Stirdon friends” said the McLeods.
As a voluntary gesture of gratitude and appreciation, naming rights to one of the soccer fields will be brought to Town Council in 2020 to commemorate the legacy of contribution of all former employees of Stirdon Systems.
Mountain View County has approved matching funding of up to $1 Million toward the construction of Rotary Athletic Park of Olds based on community donations received by December 31, 2019.
Working with fundraising consultant Jordan Cleland, The Town of Olds has gratefully received donations totaling $987,550 to date to support the enhancement of the recreation development. If any community member, family, foundation or business wants information on how they might structure a donation that gets our total to an even $1,000,000, Mr. Cleland will be pleased to facilitate that with interested parties.
Rotary Athletic Park of Olds is located off 70 Avenue in the northwest corner of Olds behind Cornerstone Developments. The park is scheduled to open in the spring of 2020.
