Rural Structure Fire in Mountain View County

July 16, 2021

On Thursday, July 15th, 2021 Olds Fire Department was dispatched to an automatic mutual aid call in Mountain View County for a rural structure fire.
Olds Fire responded with seven firefighters, an engine, a tender, and a command unit to an involved barn structure with heavy fire. A combination of firefighters from Olds, Didsbury, and Carstairs worked together to contain the fire to the initial structure.
A water shuttle was initiated using three water tenders and approximately 25000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire. A mobile home had minor damages due to the extreme heat and fire from the barn. Crews were able to stop the fire from spreading into the mobile home and successively saved the structure.
There were no injuries because of the fire, but firefighters experienced extreme heat and humidity exposure. AHS was on scene with an ambulance to monitor the firefighter’s vitals for the duration of the call.
The cause of this fire is currently under investigation by the Didsbury Fire Department.
