Council Waives Development Permit Fees

February 9, 2021

Town of Olds Council has passed a motion to waive development fees for the period of January 1, 2021 to June 30, 2021 during the regular meeting of Council held on February 8, 2021.
Development Permit fees will be waived to assist residents and businesses with some financial relief during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Council approved administration’s recommendation to waive the development permit fees within the residential and commercial/industrial/institutional/recreational categories of the development permit fees listed in schedule E of Rate Bylaw 2020-17.
“Eliminating these fees will assist residents and businesses with the economic challenges they are currently facing during the COVID pandemic” said CAO Michael Merritt. “The Town is focused on helping business owners recover economically once all the restrictions have lifted.”
The waivers are specifically for development permits for such things as building Residential Detached Dwellings, Duplexes, Multiplexes, Apartments, along with Commercial/Industrial/Institutional or Recreational use, home based businesses, and construction or renovation to create secondary suites and garages.
Fees will vary depending on the specific application, however businesses and residents could potentially save hundreds of dollars.
While some development permits fees will be waived, individuals will still need to apply for development permits when it is required under the regulations of the Land Use Bylaw, and other fees such as building permit fees will still apply. The Town’s Planning and Development department is available to help with any questions and provide guidance on applications.
Applications are available on the Town of Olds website.
