Below is a quick summary of Council discussions and decisions at the Regular Council meeting on September 9, 2024. 

 

Bylaw 2024-37 Land Use Bylaw Amendment 

First reading was given and a Public Hearing date set for October 15, 2024 at 1:00 PM in Council Chambers for Bylaw 2024-37, which proposes to rezone a residential parcel to highway commercial to facilitate a mixed-use redevelopment of the property. The Town is committed to fostering the ongoing evolution and redevelopment of established neighbourhoods in alignment with our Statutory Plans to promote residential and economic growth in Olds. 

 

Bylaw 2024-38 Northeast Area Structure Plan (ASP) 

After first reading, a Public Hearing date was set for October 15, 2024 at 1:00 PM in Council Chambers.  This ASP covers a large section of recently annexed land, currently not located within any existing ASP. And ASP is broad planning document that outlines the future servicing, development, and growth for a defined area.  

 

Committee of the Whole Recommendations 

Three policy recommendations from the Committee of the Whole meeting held September 3, 2024 were ratified by Council. Policy 408C Use of Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) and Policy 802C Receipt of Donations were rescinded.  Policy 803C Request for Donation Sponsorship and Promotional Items was reviewed and approved.  

 

Procedural Bylaw Review Ad Hoc Committee Appointments 

Councillor Blatz, Councillor Cummings and Councillor Ryan were appointed to the Ad Hoc Committee that will review Council’s Procedural Bylaw, which is the document that governs meetings of Council’s and committees. This review is done one per Council term to ensure relevancy and currency with best practices.  

 

Council Salary & Council Remuneration Policy 

The Council Remuneration discussion continued and Council passed the associated policies to transition to a salary model beginning January 1st, 2025.  

  

Development Permit for Chicken Coop 

Chicken Coops are a Discretionary Use in the R2 district, Council is the Development Authority for this application and adjacent property owners were notified of this application. No comments were received by Administration pertaining to this application.
