Olds Municipal Library Board’s Annual Report to Council

Olds Municipal Library Board reports annually to Council, as its largest funding source. This includes providing updates on our activities, achievements, and financial oversight. Sharing the budget ensures the community is informed about how resources are allocated to support library services and initiatives.

Council accepted the Olds Municipal Library Board proposed budget as information.

Quarterly Report from Community Services

The Community Services report provides a comprehensive update on various function areas within the Parks and Recreation, Community Development and Communication and Engagement departments. This report is submitted for information purposes and aims to provide stakeholders and key decision makers with a clear understanding of the recent developments, achievements, and challenges across the division.

Council accepted the Community Service Quarterly report as presented.

Mountain View Power Community Grants Program announces Fall 2024 Recipients

The Mountain View Power (MVP) Community Grants Program was implemented to provide financial assistance towards projects/ events/ activities that enhance and enrich the community. The MVP Community Grants Evaluation Committee approved $50,000 in funding for six submissions from their Fall 2024 intake, for a grand total of $247,000 reinvested into our community since June 2023. Council approved the Mountainview Power Community Grant Committee’s Recommendations as presented.

Municipal Affairs Statutes Amendment “Active Overview” Accepted

Administration provided an update regarding recent legislative changes under the Municipal Affairs Statutes Amendment Act, 2024. These changes aim to support municipalities in accelerating housing development, strengthening provincial oversight, and modernizing regulations for local elections and elected officials. However, there are impacts to municipalities involving additional costs and resource commitments.

Key Notes from Correspondence and Information Report

Starting November 2024, RCMP began using body-worn cameras, the Mountain View Seniors’ Housing requisitions were submitted, and the province-wide BREWD (Business Retention Expansion and Workforce Development) initiative kicked into high-gear to support local and regional businesses.

2025 Operating and Capital Budget

The 2025 Proposed Capital Budget was introduced in the Special Council Meeting held on November 25 at 9:00 am, and questions were answered. Further discussions are scheduled for November 28th, December 2nd, and December 9th. All meetings are open to the public and live-streamed on the Town's website.
