Below is a list of the most common events held annually:

Family Day - February

Family Day is observed on the third Monday in February throughout Alberta. 

The holiday was first celebrated in 1990. At that time, then-premier Don Getty said it was important for Albertans to spend time with their families, and that this holiday would emphasize the importance of family values.

National Indigenous Peoples Day - June

 National Indigenous Peoples Day is recognized annually on June 21. In Olds, a community celebration is held every year during the week of June 21 to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples. 

Summer Oldstice - June

Summer Oldstice is an ever-evolving celebration of summer activities and retail therapy from the buisnesses of Uptowne Olds. Things kick off with the annual Pancake Breakfast in the heart of Uptown Olds. The Mountain View Pistons host a Show ‘n’ Shine on the streets of Uptowne Olds while Uptowne businesses offer sidewalk sales full of specials. Uptowne Restaurants (many with summer patios) offer up delicious specials for every palate. Games and activities abound for the kids. This annual event is brought to you by Uptown Olds, a group of volunteers, business owners, managers, and entrepreneurs who believe that the downtown core is the heart of the community, rich with stories from our past and dreams for our future.

Canada Day - July 1

Canada Day is celebrated every July 1st to commemorate the independence of Canada.  The Olds community comes together to celebrate its heritage and commemorate Canada's Birthday with celebrations held in Centennial Park. People of all ages  gather to enjoy a parade, and a host of games and activities during the day and a fantastic fireworks display at night.

Community Showcase Registration & Information Night - September

The Community Showcase is an annual trade-show-like event for local organizations to provide information and/or take registrations for their upcoming programming, events or services. 
This event is intended for non-profits and service clubs seeking to recruit volunteers; for sports organizations and clubs taking registrations; and for learning about organizations and support services wishing to share information on their programs.

Date: First Thursday after Labour Day in September
Location: Olds Sportsplex Auxiliary Arena,  5133 - 52 Street

Alberta Culture Days is held annually in mid September with a wide variety of activities  for the whole family..

Oldstoberfest - September

Oldstoberfest is the world's first and only Bavarian Rodeo held annually on the third weekend of September.  Merging Bavarian culture with our western prairie heritage, it is an atmosphere one must truly experience.  For more information or to volunteer check out the Oldstoberfest web site.

 

CPR Holiday Train - late November / early December

The CP Holiday Train makes its annual journey across Canada encouraging attendees to open their cupboards and wallets to raise funds and collect food donations to address hunger needs in their communities. Mountain View Food Bank accepts donations at the Olds stop to ensure those less fortunate have enough healthy food during the holiday season.

For 2023, the CP Holiday Train will arrive in Olds at the 50 St crossing at 2:20 pm on December 8.

Olds Fashioned Christmas - late November

Started in 1993, Olds Fashioned Christmas  is a community, culture and recreation event held throughout November and December. It is organized and coordinated by a team of volunteers and has grown to include a large number of Events, Craft Shows and Family Activities. All of these can be found on the Olds Fashioned Calendar of Events that is produced every Christmas Season.  There is extensive involvement by volunteers, local businesses, schools and service groups.

Santa Claus Parade of Lights - late November

The Santa Claus Parade of Lights is held in conjunction with Olds Fashioned Christmas. The 2023 parade will be on Saturday, December 2. All activites are FREE, and take place in Centennial Park located in Uptowne Olds at the corner of 50 Ave. and 54 St.
