The Herb Samis Welcoming Gardens are located at 46 St and 50 Ave. This project created a new park totally dedicated to Herb Samis, a local pioneer, sportsman, volunteer, historian, humorist, experimental farmer, and community enthusiast. Samis planted gardens along the Canadian Pacific Railway line in Olds that spelled out messages that passengers could read as they sped by on the trains.

Visiting Olds

The Town of Olds, population 9,184, is a town of opportunity with a lifestyle to match. Centrally located along the busy QEII corridor, Olds is a major service centre and regional market for over 40,000 people in Mountain View County. The proximity to Red Deer and Calgary contribute to our continued growth and economic stability.

The quality lifestyle in Olds reflects the values and interests of our residents, which translates into a strong sense of community pride. Olds has safe and friendly neighbourhoods, beautiful parks, a fabulous path and trail system, and all the amenities associated with a big city.

Olds is home to both Public and Separate Schools ranging from pre-school to Olds College and shared access and use of the award winning Community Learning Campus & Bell e-Learning Centre.

Explore historic Uptowne Olds with great shopping and restaurants, and modern Olds with its Aquatic Centre, Sportsplex, state of the art TransCanada Theatre, new Skateboard Park and Ralph Klein Health & Wellness Centre.

Many volunteer groups in the Town of Olds work hard to help host community-wide events such as Olds Fashioned Christmas, Canada Day, Hay City Slam, and regular events at the Olds Agricultural Society. There are also a large number of clubs and community organizations to stimulate the interests of both children and adults in Olds.

The citizens of Olds work together to give back to their community - building the place we call home.
