The Town of Olds has started a process to review and update the Southeast Industrial Area Structure Plan (ASP). The Southeast Industrial ASP was written in 2001 with the last update completed in 2015.

The Southeast Industrial Area Structure Plan Review process is intended to assess the current policies and direction of the 2015 Southeast Industrial Area Structure Plan and to update these to reflect the vision for the future of the Southeast Industrial area.

This page will be updated as the project progresses. Please check back from time to time to see updates on the project and notices about opportunities for your participation.

Why is the Southeast Industrial Area Structure Plan important?

Having forward looking plans in place, such as the Southeast Industrial Area Structure Plan (ASP), can help the Town of Olds attract new and innovative businesses to the area, and reinforce the town’s position as a regional service center. It provides a policy framework for the growth and development of the community far into the future.

The Southeast Industrial Area Structure Plan aims to guide future growth and development of the Southeast Industrial area in a manner that is orderly, economical and beneficial, while balancing the environmental, social and economic needs and desires of the community. Some of the topics covered in the Southeast Industrial ASP include:

  • Major land uses;
  • Site access and internal transportation networks;
  • Site servicing considerations (water, sanitary sewer, storm water management);
  • Integration of industrial development with existing adjacent land uses;
  • Preservation of significant natural features

Who is leading the Process?

Town of Olds Administration is leading the process with assistance from Parkland Community Planning Services.

What is the Process for the Project?

There are a number of steps involved in the process to update the Southeast Industrial ASP. These have been summarized and outlined below:

Updates and Initial Assessment - this part includes a read of the existing plan and consultation with Town Administration about the issues and improvements that should be considered

Shaping Possible Policy Changes and Directions - building on the review of the current ASP document, proposed policy changes are identified and a draft plan is prepared

Public Consultation and Input - draft plan is made available for public review and comment

Prepare a Revised Plan - an updated plan is prepared following public consultation

Formal Plan Adoption - Council will consider adoption of the updated Southeast Industrial Area Structure Plan following opportunity for comments in a public hearing

The Updates and Initial Assessment and the Shaping Possible Policy Directions and Preparing Draft Plan stages of the process are now complete. The Southeast Industrial Area Structure Plan Review is now in the Public Consultation and Input stage of the process. This stage is expected to be complete by June 2018.
