The Town of Olds is currently involved in a Municipal Sustainability Pilot Project. The Aquatic Center is conveniently located on the Olds College campus. It features five lanes, waterslide, and hot tub. Visit with our Town Crier and Bell Ringer, Denis and Judy Patry, during Olds Fashioned Christmas. Olds is a vibrant and thriving place with exciting business opportunities, including Industrial Parks. Welcome to Olds, National Winner in the 2005 Communities in Bloom competition.
 
Inspections

The Town of Olds Building Inspector requires inspections of all projects once ALL requirements have been completed at EACH of the three stages listed below.

It is the permit-holder's responsibility to contact the Town of Olds Building Inspector at least two working days in advance of an inspection.

When you call, provide the property owner's name, the Building Permit number, and the Legal Description (street address) of the site.

Inspection Reports will be left at the site by the Building Inspector.

The Town of Olds Building Inspector requires inspections of all projects once ALL requirements have been completed at EACH of the following three stages:

  1. Foundation
    • must be damp-proofed
    • installation of weeping tile and washed gravel
    • for preserved wood foundations, a copy forwarded of Engineer's Inspection Report
    • positioning and height of footings
  2. Framing
    • framing is complete, including floors, walls and roof
    • roof covering is installed (shingles, shakes, concrete tiles)
    • exterior doors and windows installed
    • fireplaces roughed in and framed
    • interior stairs installed where possible
    • roughed-in plumbing, electrical and mechanical
  3. Final Inspection
    • Contact - Planning & Development
    • a final inspection is required BEFORE occupying or using the building
    • general and fire safety requirements in the Alberta Building Code must be met at this stage (e.g. smoke alarms, hand rails, guards, self-closure on garage doors, etc.)
    • if these requirements can be met as a temporary means, a partial occupancy inspection may be carried out
      • Final building inspection
      • Hard surface driveway and parking pads, if applicable
      • Landscaping and landscape elevations
      • Sidewalk, gutters and water curb stops have not been damaged (per the Pre-Inspection)
      • Sump pump and eavestroughs are installed correctly
      • Front and rear house numbers must be installed
      • Exterior finish on building, decks, stairways, etc. have been completed
Your Performance Bond (if applicable) will be refunded to you upon completion of the Final Inspection to the sole satisfaction of the Planning & Development department:

 
Water & Sewer Inspections

Water and sewer inspections must be done PRIOR to backfill to inspect connections.
