The Town of Olds has a Green Bin program for composting solid waste and grass clippings, a Black Bin program for household waste that can’t be composted or recycled, and a new Blue Bin program currently as a pilot project till July 2013. This is designed for waste that can be recycled such as newspaper and cardboard.

Grass Bins are located in various suburbs throughout Olds. They are designed to accept grass, leaves, and garden waste.

The Town of Olds has approved a Blue Bin Pilot Project to run for one year from August 2012 to the end of July 2013. The goal of the program was to reduce the waste going into landfills. About 800 homes in Olds were serviced in this pilot project. After an overwhelmingly positive response the continuation of the pilot project is pending budget approval. If approved, everyone will have a bin by April 1, 2014 at the latest.

Garbage Day

Residential Waste Collection in Olds is on a five-day schedule, from Monday to Friday, with collection weeks alternating between Black Bin (garbage) and Green Bin (compost). Blue Bin (recycling) Collection is contracted to Can Pak Environmental Inc. - phone 403-556-2871. Locate your house on the Roll Out Bin Collection Schedule to determine your Collection Day and bin colour for any particular week.

Transfer Station (a.k.a. Dump, Nuisance Ground)

The Olds EcoSite (Waste Transfer Station) is located 1 km west of Olds on Highway 27, then ½ km north on 70 Avenue (Turn at Belsher Equipment). It is open Tuesday to Saturday 9.00 am to 4.30 pm and Monday 9.00 am to 2.30 pm (Closed Statutory Holidays). Disposal fees: $200./tonne (20¢ per kilogram). The Olds EcoSite and all the EcoSites in Mountain View County are operated by the Can Pak Environmental Inc. Neighbourhood Grass Bins

Throughout Olds, large green bins labelled "Grass Clippings" are ready to accept your yard waste. This service is offered free to town residents.

Acceptable
  • Grass clippings, leaves and plant waste ONLY

Not Acceptable

  • Plastic, glass or metal
  • Kitchen waste or animal waste
  • Tree trunks, branches or tree roots
  • Sod or large quantities of dirt
