National beautification programs have flourished in Europe for decades, and were the inspiration for the Communities in Bloom program. In Canada it began in 1995 with 29 Canadian communities and has grown to more than 100 national competitors and hundreds of municipalities registered in the provincial competitions!
Olds has participated in Communities in Bloom since 1998. To date our best showing was in 2005 when Olds was voted Best Town in Canada in our size category, receiving Five out of Five Blooms!

Having participated in International competition for the previous two years, Olds was originally not eligible to participate internationally in 2008…however, when a spot opened up due to another town dropping out, Olds was invited to take the spot, so of course we jumped at the chance! This year we were a finalist in the International challenge – Small – category, receiving a Five-Bloom rating with a Special Mention for Community Partnerships.
