Bylaws and Enforcement
-
As a resident of Olds, you have certain rights and responsibilities. You have the right to promote and expect good government, the right to clean water, good schools, and a supportive infrastructure. With these rights comes the responsibility to be a good citizen. Being a good citizen means accepting responsibility for your actions and being sensitive to the needs of the community as a whole. As a citizen, it is your responsibility to inform and acquaint yourself with applicable municipal and provincial bylaws. Ignorance of the law is rarely accepted as an excuse for breaking it.

Town of Olds Council, Staff and Administration also have responsibilities. All Town of Olds Bylaws are enacted by Town Council. The people working at Town Office are all also taxpayers, and take the management of our resources, facilities and infrastructure seriously. Staff members have a broad base of knowledge covering a wide range of civic programs and services. One of our goals is to identify needs and address them as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Since the Town of Olds has been in business for over 100 years (incorporated 1905), there are currently over 100 active Bylaws. Copies of the most commonly referenced Town of Olds Bylaws are available on this page. If you are unsure about whether a certain Bylaw exists, contact Office of the CAO.
For issues regarding Bylaw Enforcement, contact Town of Olds Community Peace Officers at 403-556-6981 or email bylaw@olds.ca. You can also report Bylaw issues by using our on-line Report a Problem form.
