The Town of Olds is currently involved in a Municipal Sustainability Pilot Project. The Aquatic Center is conveniently located on the Olds College campus. It features five lanes, waterslide, and hot tub. Visit with our Town Crier and Bell Ringer, Denis and Judy Patry, during Olds Fashioned Christmas. Business Licenses

All businesses operating within the corporate boundaries of the town of Olds are required to possess a valid Town of Olds Business License, per Town of Olds Business License Bylaw 00-016. PDF Document

Your Annual Business License fee allows you the option of having your business listed in our online Business Directory at no charge.

No license is required for the following:
  • Any business carried on or operated by any person on any grounds directly associated with the Mountain View County Fair that are directly supervised and controlled by the Olds Agricultural Society.
  • Farmers Markets.
  • Residential Garage Sales, provided that the sale takes place on a residential property where that property owner or primary resident, when referring to residential rental properties, directly supervises and controls the sale to a maximum of four weekends per calendar year.
  • Non-Profit organizations.
  • Material delivery operations, provided that the transaction/negotiation to purchase those items takes place outside the corporate limits of Olds, and that the company is not a Resident Business.
  • Any other business as Town Council may from time to time exempt.

Business Types
The Town of Olds distinguishes among three types of businesses:

Resident Business
Any business that ordinarily locates or maintains a permanent place of business within the corporate limits of the town.

Non-Resident Business
Any business that does not ordinarily locate or maintain a permanent place of business within the corporate limits of the town.

This category includes those non-resident building contractors and those non-resident tradespersons associated with the construction and/or repair of a building within the corporate limits of the town.

Temporary Business A commercial, merchandising or industrial activity or undertaking; a profession, trade, occupation, calling or employment; or, an activity providing goods or services, however formed, including a cooperative or association of persons carried on within the corporate limits of the town of Olds where the duration of the business activity is equal to or less than two consecutive weeks.

Business License Fees
Business License Fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Fees are not prorated.

Yearly Business License
Yearly licenses are for the calendar year, 1 January to 31 December. All yearly license fees are based on a yearly amount for the duration of the License. Businesses that purchase or renew Yearly Licenses prior to 1 December for the current year will receive a 10% discount.

  • Resident Business - $100.00 per Calendar Year (effective 1 February 2008)
  • Non-Resident - $200.00 per Calendar Year (effective 1 February 2008)

Half-Year Business License Fees - Applicable To First-Time Business Licensees Only
The fee payable for a first time business license issued between 1 July and 31 December is 50% of the applicable license fee for the full year (see fees above).

Temporary Business License Fees
These licenses are for business activity equal to or less than two consecutive weeks. Temporary Licenses terminate upon completion of the two-week time frame as stated on the License.

  • Resident Business (Temporary) - $25.00 per two consecutive weeks (effective 1 February 2008)
  • Non-Resident Business (Temporary) - $50.00 per two consecutive weeks (effective 1 February 2008)

Optional Online Business Directory Link
Your Annual Business License fee allows you the option of having your business listed in our online Business Directory at no extra charge.

For an additional $12 per business, we will also hot link your business website and email address to your listing. This option is outlined in Schedule K PDF Document of Town of Olds Rate Bylaw 01-06. Simply check off this option on your application and provide your website and/or email address.
