Dogs aged 3 months or older are required to be licensed annually. For information on licensing fees, fines and other regulations, read Dog Control Bylaw 2005-25. PDF Document

Purchase dog licenses at Town Office. Renewals for the following calendar year may be purchased starting 1 December. If you own three to six dogs, you are also required to purchase a Hobby License every year for $50.00. Owners of unlicensed dogs may be subject to fines and extra licensing charges.

Cats are not currently required to be licensed. For information on regulations, read Cat Bylaw 1517-97. PDF Document

Dogs and cats that are picked up by the Town of Olds Community Peace Officers are immediately impounded at our contract impoundment facility unless there are special circumstances. Stray dogs or cats that are not aggressive, not injured, or that otherwise are not a public safety concern, do not have priority status, and residents are discouraged from taking in stray dogs and cats unless prepared to keep them until the next business day. The RCMP will only respond to emergency calls only - all other calls will be referred to Town of Olds for follow up. The Town of Olds impound facility will not accept stray dogs or cats without Town of Olds authorization.
